Increase the adjusted gross income limit on student debt interest paid annually to deduct from federal taxes.

Created by J.G. on May 12, 2013

Under current IRS policy, in the section about Income Limitations and Phase-outs, it says: "The deduction is also limited by your income. If your modified adjusted gross income is under $60,000 (or $125,000 for married couples filing a joint return), then you can deduct up to $2,500 in student loan interest. If your income is over $75,000 ($155,000 MFJ), then your student loan interest is not deductible at all." However, this puts undue pressure on those who required student loans for graduate degrees in the healthcare professions, such as psychologists, medical doctors and dentists, among others. Therefore, this petitition requests that only incomes above $200,000 be exempt from this type of deduction. And no pro-rating of incomes. $2,500 in interest paid should be afforded.
