The recent outbreak of Ebola in West Africa, which one senior Doctors Without Borders official deemed "totally out of control," represents a serious risk not only to the region but to the world.
The Ebola virus causes the shutdown of internal organs, causing death. It spreads quickly through direct contact and has no cure. Currently, the Ebola virus has killed over three hundred people in three West African nations (Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia). This is the largest outbreak of the virus in history.
These nations need international support to combat the spread of this virulent and dangerous disease. We ask that the Obama administration recognize the danger Ebola presents, and offer any support it can to aid those suffering in Africa and prevent the virus from spreading beyond.
