It's time we invest in our future by increasing federal aid, education grants, and tax credits for American college students.
Average in state tuition, room and board is over $20k/year. A middle class college student is eligible for $4500-$6500 in aid in the form of federal loans. Aid is not keeping up with college costs. Colleges raise tuition, families' incomes have shrunk.
Tuition at public four-year colleges rose by 19% over the rate of inflation from 2003-'09, and by another 27% between 2010-'13. Student loan debt rose an avg. rate of 6% per year from '08 to '12. Average debt load for the class of '12 was $29k.
We spend billions on foreign college students in the US, foreign aid, and failing social programs. Please help our country by helping our students avoid crushing debt.
