Increase the amount of Student Loan Interest a person can claim on their taxes each year.

Created by S.D. on November 04, 2011

The maximum amount of student loan interest paid a person can claim on their taxes each year is $2,500, if they make under $60,000 a year. If they make more than that, they can only claim a lesser amount until they make $75,000 a year, where they cannot claim any. Many Americans are paying far more than this amount in student loans each year, and many former students would be brought down to poverty levels if it weren't for their loan payments each year.

This petition calls for increasing the allowable claim amount each year. This would help to put a former student's adjusted gross income more in line with what they're actually taking home, and not paying straight back to the government or banks due to the skyrocketing costs of education.
