Increase authority of security personnel to carry and use firearms or other techniques to defend areas such as schools

As a security guard I know we have limited authority. Tragedies such as the shootings in schools and other public venues show that nothing is as safe as it seems. If we increase the authority of security personnel to those similar or identical to police officers allowing security to carry and use firearms when appropriate, make arrests, stop suspicious persons, etc. things could be avoided. Extend training of security to cover more extensive protection techniques could save lives.
