As tipped employees, 90-95% of all of our income is based on the generosity of the guest we serve in our establishments. The minimum wages of tipped employees has hardly changed in the last 76 years since the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Due to the IRS's new ruling (Ruling 2012-18), gratuity can no longer be added to walk-in guest, which is greatly limiting the amount of income tipped employees can generate. This law is causing many families of tipped employees to fall well below the poverty line and the minimum wage should be increased.
