This petition asks that student loan debtors be allowed to file for bankruptcy to discharge their student loans.
Too many Americans have been dragged down both in their career and family life by a student loan system that is out of control.
As private companies like Sallie Mae can give loans that aren't dischargeable by bankruptcy, they can give them out indiscriminately. The more students are able to borrow, the more tuition can increase.
This leaves graduates with huge debts and reduced ability to contribute to society and the economy in a meaningful way.
This is not what college tuition was meant to lead to, was it?
