In November 2014 the NTSB concluded that drones are aircraft and the FAA asserted that all federal aircraft regulations should apply to drones. Currently the only regulations that apply to drones are the restrictions in controlled airspace, the operation of drones in an unsafe manner and the required registration and markings. We hope that with this petition to increase the regulations on UAVs to include licensing and radio receivers for the operators as well as requiring proper aircraft position lighting and altitude restrictions to prevent collision hazards for other aircraft in the area.
