The current electrical grid for the United States is extremely outdated. Similar to this nation’s highways, a majority of the grid was created decades ago. As such, a majority of the grid is now outdated in terms of efficiency, and in terms of reliability.
I propose that the President increase funding and emphasis to upgrade this nation’s electrical infrastructure using 'smart grid' technology. The $4.5 billion set aside for this purpose in 2009 simply is not enough. We need to ensure that Americans of both today and tomorrow have a reliable and efficient electrical grid.
A smart grid will also increase resilience against an attack because it deters or withstands physical or cyber attacks thus improving public safety.
