Many families today are at risk of losing or already have lost and are unable to regain the child care assistance that helps maintain their financial stability and ensure the well-being of their children. Families that qualify and recieve Temporary Assistance for Needy Families(TANF) recieve precedence for Child Care Assistance Program(CAPS) while nearly half of TANF recipients are unemployed and not in critical need of child care assistance. In contrast, 41% to 50% of the income in a single family household recieving minimum wage from a full-time job is spent on child care for children age 6 weeks to 4 years old.
