The current federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour. For those lucky enough to have a job in this economy, that is far better than nothing. Unfortunately, working a full-time schedule of 40 hours a week at the current minimum wage will only equal a little over $1000 a month($1160). That is $13,920 a year which is well below what the government considers poor at $17,029. Raising minimum wage isn't going to end poverty but it can help those Americans who do have a job lean less on public assistance and have a better chance of supporting their families.
