The current Federal Minimum Wage of $7.25 per hour as set by the federal government by the Fairness Minimum Wage Act of 2007, is too low for an American citizen to live on. At the current rate, 58% of Americans will spend at least 1 year below the federal poverty line; in 2010, 15.1% of all Americans lived below the poverty line. In Australia the Minimum Wage is $16.37, and poverty in the established part of the country similar to the United States (some sections of the country are closer to the third world than to the United States) poverty is closer to 6%. Americans can not survive at the current rate, we as Americans deserve to live happy and healthy, thus the UE Rate should be increased to a rate closer to living costs.
