Increase Fitness, Nutrition, and Health Education in Schools

Created by A.D. on February 23, 2014

While there are a few standards for Nutrition, Health, and Fitness currently in effect in schools, it is important for children to further understand these topics. A large majority of the population is obese/overweight and that number is constantly growing. The US government must increase the education about these topics in schools starting at a young age. Children must be taught about the benefits of a healthy diet and schools must stress the importance of exercising at least half an hour a day. P.E. standards should be increased for elementary students. Younger children should be taught how to correctly read and understand nutrition labels on foods. Currently, schools focus on traditional curriculum but Health is just as important and should be stressed on the same level.
