America must regain its greatness in the area of transportation infrastructure through investments in high-speed interstate rail. Europe and Asia have left the USA in the dust when it comes to reliable, affordable, and safe rail transportation infrastructure. AMTRAK should be viewed as a public service infrastructure investment (just like the Interstate Highway System) rather than a potential for quasi-governmental profits.
