According to the Center for Applied Linguistics, Americans who speak multiple languages have an advantage at communication with others, performance in school, and and problem solving. Children who begin learning another language before adolescence attain higher fluency and learn to speak it without and accent. Americans who are fluent in another language can enhance our economic competitiveness, maintain national security, improve international communication, engage in travel, and promote intercultural awareness. This administration has shown its verbal support for language programs. I believe that it is time to take action and support funding for early language learning. I believe it is time to open doors for our children and hand them the keys to the future.
