As the 2012 Institute of Medicine report Epilepsy Across the Spectrum noted epilepsy is the 3rd most prevalent neurological disorder, yet “gets less funding than the other neurological disorders when adjusted for prevalence.”
It is estimated that 50,000 deaths will occur this year due to Epilepsy.
Epilepsy imposes an annual economic burden of $15.5 billion on the nation in associated health care costs and losses in employment, wages, and productivity.
With better funding a cure can be found faster which will lead to other neurological research.
