Eating Disorders are twice as prevalent as Alzheimer's disease but receive 75% less research funding. Some statistics show that only 30-40% of sufferers ever fully recover and 1 in 5 will die of complications due to the disease. Eating Disorders are serious, life threatening illnesses and have a mortality rate higher than any and all other mental illnesses. Currently, research dollars per affected individual for Eating Disorders stands at $0.93 while the research dollars per affected individual for Alzheimer's is $88, for Schizophrenia $81, and for Autism $44. I hope you are able to see the problem here. The CDC reports that 1 in 88 children here in the U.S. are affected with Autism, whereas it is reported that approximately 1 in 50 suffers from Bulimia Nervosa. Please help to change this.
