Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1, 2 and 2A are rare genetically acquired diseases with terrible consequences for those who inherit them. They affect the hormonal functions of the endocrine system, including the pituitary, parathyroid, pancreas, and adrenal glands. MEN patients are also more susceptible to cancers, including skin, prostate, thyroid, and other cancers.
The lifetime cost to MEN patients is staggering. Multiple surgeries are always required. Patients' life expectancy is significantly reduced. The National Institutes for Health should fund research and provide grants for curing this disease group and also provide support for the families affected.
