The Coast Guard is the only military service that operates under the Department of Homeland Security. The Coast Guards core mission is "to protect the public, the environment and US economic and security interests in any maritime region in which those interests may be at risk", They are, Americans Guardians.
The Coast Guard has been woefully underfunded for decades and is tasked with protecting our country's shores with antiquated equipment while the pentagon spends the lions share of its resources on offensive military services.
