Myself and my wife have sickle trait and we produce a child with the full disease. We lost him to the disease in 03, a niece in 81, and sister in law in 89. When we were married we didn't know anything about the disease. We became knowledgeable when our son became ill. I think there are still a lot of people who are not cognate of the disease.
