Requesting fundraising to decrease the onset of childhood obesity by 10% in San Diego, beginning with availability of healthier food selections in all school districts. If we can reach that objective, we can continue to set the standards higher. As of 2012, San Diego has the 9th highest childhood obesity rate in the county, placing 33% of children in this category. The onset of childhood obesity can begin as early as elementary school. In 2012, the Health and Human Service Agency in San Diego County found that 50% of U.S. schools still served sugar drinks and 1 of 7 low-income preschool children are obese. In 2009, they found that 11.5% of California students aged 0-11 were overweight. In San Diego County alone, 9.8% of children aged 0-11 were considered overweight in 2009
