Increase mental health care funding in light of the mass shootings committed by individuals with mental health issues

Created by H.N. on December 15, 2012

Funding for mental health care in general has been severely slashed in recent years. As a result, individuals like Jared Lee Loughner, James Holmes, Adam Lanza, and others with severe mental health issues do not get the help they need. These gunmen could have benefited from receiving greater psychiatric and psychological care, which might have prevented the tragedies they caused. There were no changes in policy following the Tucson shooting of Gabrielle Giffords or the shooting in an Aurora, Colorado movie theater. Now that a disaster has struck an elementary school in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, let's undo the damage done by the severe mental health care funding cuts so that individuals like these can get the help they need and the public can be kept as safe as possible.
