Increase minimum wage for restaurant servers

Created by M.A. on January 06, 2013

America is in the minority when it comes to our wait staff. Unlike many foreign countries, we do not mandate our servers be paid the standard minimum wage. Instead, we expect them to get by on the generosity of others in the form of tips. The issue being that relying on others generosity is not a practical form of income. It leads to a subservient atmosphere, where the server is seen as less than the customer does and in need of charity, rather than an equal performing a service.
All Americans are entitled to receive a fair pay regardless of the whims of their customers. That is why this petition aims to return restaurant workers pay to the standard minimum wage and return tipping to a bonus for workers to strive for, but not rely on.
