increase the minimum wages for tipped employees from 2.13/hr to at least 5/hr

Created by A.T. on February 26, 2014

I have looked and can't seem to find any increases in the minimum wage for tipped employees since the early eighties. Back then the hourly minimum was 3.25/hr. It truly isn't fair to think that servers and the like do not deserve at least 50%-75% of the hourly minimum. Not to mention how much more tax monies may actually be collected from these individuals as most of the time 2.13/hr is not enough to pay taxes and take any home even on a moderate weeks income. On a good week Uncle Sam may not always get his share, because it's simply not there to give, and now most establishments have discontinued the automatic gratuity due to new IRS regulations. People are used to it being there on larger parties and don't even check and end up not tipping at all. the server is still taxed on the sales
