Throughout the history of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the budget of all 50+ years is still less than 1 year of government military and defense spending.
NASA the forefront of the United State's greatest achievement, and possibly the most important event in human history, is greatly underfunded. NASA's 50+ year budget amounts to ~800 billion dollars, FOR FIFTY YEARS, while one year alone in military spending surpasses that with ~900 billion dollars, PER YEAR. Annual science budgets amounts to ~50 billion dollars, while NASA is still a small fraction of this cost totaling in about 17 billion a year on average.
