Many people who say NASA is spending too much government money without seeing any results do not realize that NASA is being run on an absurdly small budget: less than 1% of total government spending. NASA undertakes many tasks, such as monitoring climate change, detecting potentially dangerous asteroids, preventing satellite network knockdowns, ect. There is also to more scientific question of understanding where we come from and knowing where we are going, which have been asked since the dawn of humanity. It is absurd for a program as important as NASA to be run on less than 1% of the government spending. It is not just that NASA's budget cannot be cut; but rather that it needs to be increased.
