Increase NASA funding by almost two times within the next five years.

NASA has minimal funding now. In fact more money is spent in America on valentines day alone than the entirety of NASA's yearly budget (CNN.com). That means 18 billion dollars a year to launch spaceships and keep men and women alive on the ISS (International Space Station). Currently it costs ten thousand dollars to launch one pound into space according to nasa.gov. The average human weight in North America is about 170 lbs (Biomedcentral.com). That means 1,700,000 dollars to send one human into space. When the weight of the space craft is included the total cost skyrockets. This allows NASA to do only a few small manned missions (mainly to the ISS to keep it running) a year. NASA has also been shown to return 7 dollars for every one put in(gpo.gov).NASA needs help now.
