NASA's current budget is approximately 18 billion dollars, or 0.5 percent of the federal budget. 18 billion dollars may seem like a lot of money, but one must consider that in the 1960s, NASA was given over four percent of the federal budget. In 1969, men landed on the moon. This was a tremendous occasion made possible by federal funds.
The federal government should double NASA's funding. NASA has been shown to have a positive economic impact on all 50 states, and is a leader in the advancement of science and technology. Take the money from elsewhere, perhaps the military (550 billion dollars in funding), and allow NASA to again inspire a generation, as it did in 1969.
