This petition is calling for increased funding of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the 2015 fiscal year and beyond to pre-sequestration levels that are appropriate for rising inflation.
U.S. federal scientific investment is decreasing, as other countries investments are increasing. Diminished funding has the potential to set back scientific research and discourage young scientists from entering the field or keeping their research in the U.S.
In line with an open letter from over 50 Nobel Laureates, if this petition is fulfilled it will provide the funds necessary to secure and foster scientific and technological advances that are so vital to preserving American global leadership and funding innovation that is essential for a strong economy in the 21st century.
