The NIH is the largest contributor in the country supporting biomedical research activities. NIH-funded research has led to life-saving breakthroughs and transformative changes in medicine. These awards are made to over 3,000 universities, medical schools, and research institutions, and they support more than 350,000 researchers.
Yet the budget for the NIH generally continues to decrease due to fiscal irresponsibility in Washington. Rates slightly increased in 2014, but that pails in comparison to the stagnation of the budget in the past decade. The budget has not even kept up with the rate of inflation.
We petition Washington to do more and to support biomedical research in this country in order to fund life-saving medical advances, job security, and economic prosperity.
