The primary years of education are the years in which a person is developing their judgment, critical thinking, and ideas. The intervention of a guidance counselor who can detect certain abnormalities in a child's behavior could help prevent behavioral problems in adulthood. With this initiative, we can help decrease or avoid traumatic instances in the lives of our future adults. This would minimize people falling victim to substance abuse, committing crimes such as homicide, and in the worse case massive killing sprees that can result when psychopathic tendencies develop. Increasing the ratio of guidance counselors in schools has the power to shape children’s lives early on, so they become productive members of society.
