increase the number of refugees granted asylum per year and reduce burden of proof on asylum seekers

Created by L.P. on August 26, 2015

The burden of proof for asylum seekers is so high that on average only one in 200 applications are granted per year. With so many countries experiencing formal and informal civil wars, an asylum seeker's reasons for wanting to relocate can be corroborated with knowledge of the current events in a country. Why the need to prove you want asylum because you will probably die since you currently live in or near a war zone? We have many more tools to investigate and find out context than we did 40 years ago, our asylum process should be updated, and the number of refugees we allow per year should be increased.
