As the country becomes more polarized, more people are voting 'against' a candidate rather than 'for' a candidate. This is more true in the 2016 presidential election than ever before. Yet the current process governing debate inclusion is designed to restrict the voices heard to the two primary parties by keeping the alternative ideas of major third party candidates off the stage. If more voices are included, the two parties will both be challenged to answer serious questions rather than simply preach to their base and hurl attacks at their opponents.
The country is violently divided - we need new ideas and new voices as well as the hope that it generates. The Commission on Presidential Debates MUST let other legitimate candidates on stage this year.
