Recently maternity leave was increased for all active duty (AD) Navy moms as an added incentive to continue service as well as alleviate stress arising from this big change and the previous six week time constraint. However, paternity leave and adoption leave remain unchanged. It is very important and beneficial for Dads and Moms to establish lasting bonds with their newborns during the first few weeks after birth as well as adjust to the changes that come with this new addition. Ten days is not sufficient for active duty fathers who are already at a disadvantage of being absent from their families because of work commitments. In the interest of fairness and promoting functioning, healthy, families increase Paternity leave for Active duty Dads.
