Increase the Safety, Inclusion, Respect and Empowerment of Students w/Special Needs

Created by Y.P. on May 07, 2013

1 out of 3 students is bullied each year. Children w/special needs are at a higher risk of being bullied. All cases are not being reported and it’s being taken lightly. We ask that you consider the following for all US schools:

•Build a culture that fosters safety, inclusion, respect & empowerment of students w/special needs.
•Students w/special needs must have an adult near at all times.
•Since bullying is a self-esteem issue, it should be MANDATORY that the bully receives counseling.
•Train teachers & administrators on how to effectively deal w/bullying.
•Parents of the victim should be informed immediately, allowing the parent the opportunity to advocate for their child.
•Create a policy that protects individuals’ w/special needs from being wrongfully treated by students & adults.
