In order to counteract the drain on local economies caused by oil companies who then send their record profits to overseas tax havens, the gasoline tax should be doubled to 36 cents per gallon, with the excess money being placed in a fund used to spur innovation in alternative transportation methods and fuels.
Not only will this help the economy through innovation, it will cut reduce foreign oil consumption, thereby defunding terrorism and rogue regimes, improve air quality, and improve our environmental impact.
