For decades we've been told we need to end our dependence on foreign oil. Let's stop talking about it and make it happen.
Raise taxes on oil and gasoline. It will reduce consumption and strengthen the demand for new (American made??) fuel efficient and alternative fuel vehicles. It will improve the environment and reduce or eliminate our trade deficit. It will encourage the build-out and use of public transportation. It will get us out from under the influence of our foreign suppliers.
It's probably not the popular thing to do, but it's the right thing to do.
