As of January 1, the transit benefits for commuters who use public transportation has, yet again, failed to be extended. The transit pre-tax amount allotted to public transit riders has dropped back down from $245 per month to $130 per month, AGAIN. While at the same time, the parking benefits has INCREASED to $250 per month. This is unacceptable.
The most common sense action to be taken would be to reduce the parking benefit and/or at least increase the transit benefit permanently, which encourages the use of public transportation. Increasing it on a yearly basis, and letting it expire for months at a time hurts public transit commuters that depend on it every day to get to work.
In D.C., the transit pre-tax at $130 only covers half of my transit costs.
