Increase transparency of sugars in food by requiring nutrition labels show percentages of the recommended daily intake!

Created by H.L. on May 30, 2014

The nutrition labels currently provide percentage values for nutrients in foods. However, notably missing, is a percentage value for sugar content.

Many studies have shown that the growing obesity epidemic is caused, at least in part, by added sugar in all types of foods. There are also studies that show sugar is addictive.

As a part of the healthy initiative for children in our country, transparency is very important. Unfortunately, nutrition labels are failing parents. By only providing 'grams' many parents are unaware of how much extra sugar kids are actually eating through out their typical day.

One can of soda, OR two 8 oz glasses of fruit juice, OR three fruit snacks will fill the ADULT daily allowance of 25 grams.

It's time we make sugar percentages of daily intake on labels!
