increase transparency for tax-exempt religious organizations by requiring them to file Form 990.

Created by N.H. on February 16, 2015

Currently, tax-exempt religious organizations are not required to file certain documents that would increase organizational transparency, such as Form 990. Due to the current exemptions existing under the current tax regime, religious organizations receive billions of dollars a year and do not have to disclose how much they are receiving or where that money is going.

We want the administration to review this policy and recommend a change. Increased transparency will be better for everyone, and if these organizations are beneficial to society, they should be unafraid to file these documents as other, non-religious non-profits are required to do.
