The average cost of college tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year, not counting all the other exorbitant expenses associated with a college education, was $8,655 for an in-state public college. However, the maximum Pell grant for the 2011-2012 academic year was $5,500. We live in a society that pays lip service to the necessity of a college education, and yet does not do enough to make that education reachable. We petition the Obama administration to take steps to make the Pell grant substantially ease the financial burden of college on American families.
