Increase the viewpoint and background diversity of the Supreme Court.

Created by J.B. on February 18, 2016

The background and experience of the Supreme Court justices (liberal and conservative) are extremely homogeneous. All of the current 8, as well as Justice Scalia, attended an Ivy League college (Mostly Yale or Harvard, plus Columbia). Few have had experience working in criminal law, and those that have were prosecutors. Given recent national conversations on criminal justice reform, it would be fitting to nominate someone who has a background different than the current mix of justices and who has witnessed the darker effects of the justice system first hand (prosecutorial abuse, civil asset forfeiture, etc). This petition is not about race, religion, gender, or political leaning. We respectfully request that the President, if/when he makes a nomination, considers background diversity.
