This is a petition to increase teacher pay in the United States.
With a society that strongly emphasizes teaching, especially in the math and science fields, teachers are one of the lowest paid professions that require a college degree.
According to the National Education Association, teachers have an average salary of $35,672.06. To put this in perspective, computer programmers start at an average of $43,635, public accounting professionals at $44,668, and registered nurses at $45,570.
The national teaching salary for teachers, compared to other professions that require a college degree, is downright paltry. Teachers need to be paid more, especially when they are subjects of blame when the U.S. educational system is not doing well (in comparison to China and other countries).
