In reply to recent events, the UCLA shooting and the Orlando nightclub massacre, as well as the 166 school shootings that have taken place in the last 16 years, this petition is to ask that action be taken to enforce the laws regarding gun control and increase the penalties for those who are caught handling firearms without a license/proof of purchase. The 2nd Amendment states that, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." However, the Declaration of Independence stresses the ideals of our nation: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The enforcement of gun control will not infringe on those 2nd Amendment rights, but it will help to protect our citizens and our nation's ideals.
