Influence the DNC to Make the Iowa Caucus More Democratic

Created by J.P. on February 03, 2016

Iowa’s first-in-the-nation status, sets an awful precedent for the Democratic process and being an important form of democracy, we must find opportunities to improve and make it more inclusive.

The way Iowa’s Democratic caucuses’ award delegates, violates concept of one person, one vote. Then for Democrats, there’s no secret ballot; all voting is done in public. This year there were concerns about the lack of basic administration at many sites, plus incorrect and changing locations adding to confusion. The decision to use coin flips to break ties, is troubling, whether or not these activities influenced the outcome. Finally, limited hrs adversely affect working people. The caucuses start at 7p.m. (no entry for late arrival) and end at 10, prohibiting night shift workers to caucus.
