Currently the government can request information about it's citizens without informing them. At the very least the Government should be required to inform its citizens their data has been sequestered if a request to do so has been fulfilled.
While the need for the Government to obtain data about its citizens is recognized, those same citizens should be alerted to such inquires. This petition is in specific regards to material requested from companies such as Google, Microsoft, or private ISP's.
