Students and teachers alike enter public schools on a daily basis, and often wonder the reason behind a flag raised to half mast. Raising the national, state, and county flags is meant to be an expression of respect, mourning, or distress, so why not let everyone know why it's at half mast, and who to pay respect to? We propose to inform classes after the Pledge of Allegiance and moment of silence by announcing the purpose for a flag's status at the half mast position, and then allowing the day to continue as regularly scheduled. It's only right to publicly recognize and inform people when this occurs, and we see no reason for why this public expression of respect should not exist.
