A 19 year-old native of Texas, with no prior criminal record, was convicted of making a batch of pot brownies and faces the possibility of life in prison simply because he used hashish oil in the recipe. An otherwise misdemeanor offense turns into a first-degree felony as a result, and holds the possibility of a life sentence--longer than some prisoners who were convicted of murder.
