Initiate an affordable, equitable carbon tax.

Global climate change is a real, man-caused problem with long-term, potentially catastrophic consequences. While international cooperation is required, the United States can begin to do its part without international cooperation and without sacrificing its competitiveness by initiating a carbon tax that would start low, and increase at a known rate each year, allowing business and households to plan for the change. Other taxes would be adjusted such that the carbon tax would not be regressive and would be revenue neutral. The end result would be to promote an orderly progression from a fossil based economy to a more sustainable economy based on renewable energy and possibly including advanced fail-safe nuclear technologies.
