Initiate an amendment to the Constitution to update the 2nd Amendment in consideration of present and future weaponry.

The 2nd Amendment needs to be updated. Weaponry has advanced far beyond the imagination of the founding fathers, and the wording and circumstance of the Amendment is inappropriate today. For instance, when the founders used the word "Militia" they referred to ordinary men, mostly farmers, who joined local militias from which were drawn the soldiers employed by the federal government to defend the nation. In today's terms, the word would be "military". The firearms used by the soldiers were their own firearms, and so the amendment established that the "right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". The President, a law professor, knows that the first part of a sentence dominates the remainder. The amendment, a single sentence, starts "A well regulated Militia".
